Introduction to Bicycle Disc Brake Mount Dynamic Fatigue Testing Machine

1. Core Definitions and Uses

The Bicycle Disc Brake Mount Dynamic Fatigue Tester is a specialized testing device designed to simulate the stress state of a bicycle frame's rear or front fork under long-term, high-frequency braking conditions. It applies alternating loads to forcibly accelerate the metal fatigue process of the disc brake mount (the metal base that mounts the brake caliper), verifying its structural strength, welding quality, and material durability. It serves as a crucial quality control barrier to ensure riding safety and prevent fork breakage accidents.

2. Working principle ("brute force" simulation)

This device abandons traditional whole-vehicle road testing and adopts a "fixed-point explosion" type of mechanical simulation logic:

Technical Implementation

Simulation scenario

The frame/fork is rigidly locked using a special tooling to simulate the installation state of the frame on the whole vehicle.

The frame is fixed to the bicycle.

An alternating force (usually a sine wave) perpendicular to the mounting surface is applied at the disc brake mount mounting hole via a servo cylinder or electro-hydraulic servo actuator.

The simulation shows a rider repeatedly squeezing the brakes while going downhill, generating a huge reaction force between the brake calipers and the mounting bracket.

The system monitors force decay or sudden displacement in real time. When the disc brake mount develops cracks, breaks, or the mounting holes deform, causing a sudden drop in force, the system automatically stops and records the number of cycles.

3. Core performance indicators (technical strengths)

According to ISO 4210, EN 14766 and GB 3565 standards, the parameters of mainstream models are as follows:

Test frequencyForce accuracydriving methodShutdown conditions

Parameters

Typical Specifications

Remark

1Hz ~ 5Hz

Adjustable, standard recommendation is 1.67Hz (100 times/minute), high frequency is used to accelerate aging.

Loop count

0 ~ 999,999 times

The standard requirement is usually 50,000 or 100,000 cycles (depending on the vehicle type).

≤ ±1% FS

It uses imported high-precision force sensors (such as HBM and Shiquan).

Pneumatic (economical) / Servo-electric (high precision)

Pneumatic systems require a dry air source of 0.6~0.8MPa.

① The set number of tests is reached. ② The specimen fractures (sudden change in force). ③ The displacement exceeds the limit.

It features multiple safety interlocks.

4. Testing Standards and Criteria

The equipment strictly adheres to international safety standards, and test results directly determine whether a product can be marketed:

ISO 4210-5 (Frame and Fork): Requires the frame to withstand a specified load (e.g., 1000N) for 100,000 cycles without visible cracks, and the deformation must be within permissible limits.

EN 14766 (Mountain Bikes): Provides specific lateral and vertical fatigue testing requirements for disc brake mounts.

Acceptance Criteria: After testing, the weld seam and base material at the base of the disc brake mount are inspected using magnetic particle testing or dye penetrant testing. The absence of any cracks exceeding 1.5mm in length constitutes acceptance.
